Dreamt I was part of an engineering team working on portals to connect worlds in different star systems. The portals would allow for instantaneous travel between connected worlds and we were in the prototyping phase when funding for our project was cut. Tim S. delivered the news to us in our bright white orbital lab. “The Budgeting Committee has decided to move forward with the starship program, instead, because the starships will cost less than your portals.”
“But think about the convenience!” I counter. “And all the costs are upfront. Once we get the portals up, the operation costs are next to nothing!”
“I understand that,” he said, “The Committee has said that if you can get the upfront costs down, they’ll continue funding your project.”
“I think I can make the portals much smaller,” I answer.
